PELOTE BASQUE A HOSSEGOR
The practice of the Basque pelota is mainly in a suitable place, the Jaï Alaï. In Hossegor, you will play in a historic place called the cathedral of the pelota. This Jaï Alaï, located in the Sporting Casino, was built in 1958 on the occasion of the World Championship because Hossegor had been selected to receive this competition. The Basque pelota is a sport of rare intensity. The ball can reach speeds of 200 to 250 km/h, ricocheting on the walls on the side and sometimes on the bottom. Equipment is mandatory. In addition to club polo, white pants and white shoes, players must wear a helmet if the ball is made of leather. Chistera, Cesta Punta, Acap are the different games. To practice this emblematic sport in the southwest, discovery, initiation and development courses are organized (children-adults). Reservations to assist the parties are made at the tourist offices of Hossegor (05 58 41 79 00) or Capbreton (05 58 72 12 11), and at the entrance to the pediments at night. You will find on the website all the dates of the meetings.
