BASILIQUE NOTRE-DAME DES TOURAILLES
Basilica in the Rouvre valley, a former pilgrimage site, with an art deco doorway
Nestled in the hollow of the Rouvre valley, the basilica's location and magnificence come as a surprise. A sanctuary from the 8th century onwards, and a major pilgrimage site from the 16th century onwards, the ancient church welcomed Henri IV, who came here to pray. The current building was erected in 1903. Passing through the wide forecourt, you'll discover a doorway carved from local wood, then a second doorway in the Art Nouveau style, as sublime as the rosettes, stained-glass windows and damask floor.
