THE CLOSE

The Farm is the largest village in the west of the island. It was in La Ferme stadium that Pope John Paul II came to say a mass on August 15, 1989 during his visit to Rodrigues. Virtually all the inhabitants were present. It was such an event in the history of the island that the welcome messages painted on the walls of the stadium have still not been erased!

If you pass through this large village, also pay attention to the few beautiful buildings located at the entrance coming from Mount Lubin, just after the stadium: on the right, the school, just next to a pretty little house in the heart of a lovely garden, and on the left, the convent of the sisters of Mary. In the centre, next to the bus station, there are a few small shops, two banks and a tiny post. Around La Ferme spreads maize, pistachio and sweet potatoes.
