SANCTUARY OF SAYIDET EL-MANTARA
According to Christian belief, the Virgin Mary who accompanied Jesus to Saida would have waited in this horizontal cave 12 m deep, barely 5 m wide. She would have spent one night. The site is also known as Mantara, which means "pending". Later transformed into a chapel, the cave was used as a military location. A tower of custody was erected under Louis IX, which left nothing left. Subsequently, the site was abandoned. But by chance in 1726, a shepherd rediscovered access. The three arcades at the entrance to the sanctuary were built in 1868 by Jacques Abela, Britain's consul in Saida after his miraculous healing of a stroke.
Since then, 17 miracles have been recorded and recorded. Although the site belongs to Greek Catholics, many Lebanese, whether they be Maronites, Sunni, Shia or Druze, celebrate the Virgin.
In the early 1960 s, a chapel was built with a tower of 36 m. A bronze statue of 8,50 m represents the Virgin Mary with Jesus in his arms.
