This large white stone clock was built in 1937 by Jeanne Boggie, in memory of her husband, Major Boggie, and all the pioneers. It stands at the junction of Gweru's two main roads, Main Street and Robert Mugabe Way. For years, the hands of its four dials were stopped at 10:50. Legend has it that the clock stopped working the day after independence when the remains of Major Boggie were removed from the tower. Since then, a clockmaker has come and gone and convinced the temperamental mechanism to start again.
