Built by Italian prisoners of war in the 1940s, it houses the remains of 71 Transalpine men who died in Rhodesia. It is also known as the Italian chapel. It is characterized by its Byzantine style and by its innumerable mosaic-like wall paintings. These were done by hand and cover all the walls and the ceiling. Some consider the ceiling fresco to be reminiscent of the paintings in the Sistine Chapel. It has recently been restored, with the support of the Italian cooperation.
