Even before entering the area, we linger in front of the two-storey, century-old building, which has been nicely restored. This is undoubtedly the most pleasant tavern on Ioannou Theologou Square with, fortunately, a kitchen to match. The wine list - more than 120 - is stunning. The cuisine is simply refined, offering all the classics of Greek cuisine. In summer, the garden is lovely. Reservation recommended, as the place is very popular in this quiet and less touristic corner of Kos-ville.

However, as with many upscale establishments, there is a trade-off when it comes to pricing. The menu at Petrino leans towards the pricier side, which may not be suitable for those looking for a budget-friendly dining option. While the restaurant's ambiance does add to the overall value, the cost of dining here is something to consider.
Now, let's delve into the culinary experience at Petrino. The appetizers, while well-prepared and flavorful, may leave you wanting a bit more in terms of uniqueness and innovation. The flavors are undoubtedly delicious, but they don't necessarily stand out as extraordinary. This can be somewhat disappointing, especially given the price point.
However, the real star of the show is the main course for two, featuring shrimps and escalope. This dish manages to strike the perfect balance between taste, presentation, and portion size. It's a culinary masterpiece that justifies the higher prices on the menu. Every bite bursts with flavor, and the quality of the ingredients shines through. It's a dish that lingers in your memory long after the meal is over, and it unquestionably feels worth every penny.
When it comes to service, the staff at Petrino is polite and attentive, contributing to the overall pleasant dining experience. However, it's unfortunate that the waiter you encountered seemed to lack extensive knowledge of the menu and wine list. This can be a letdown, especially in a restaurant of this caliber. Guests often rely on the expertise of the staff to guide their dining choices, and when recommendations are merely described as "ok," it leaves room for improvement.
In conclusion, Petrino Restaurant offers a captivating atmosphere and a dining experience that is, for the most part, worth the higher price tag. While the appetizers may not be as memorable as one would hope, the main course shines as a culinary masterpiece. The service, while polite, could benefit from a more knowledgeable staff to enhance the overall dining experience. If you're looking for a special occasion restaurant and don't mind splurging a bit, Petrino is certainly worth a visit for its ambiance and standout main dishes.
