ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
Archaeological museum with a collection of sculptures from the Hellenistic period.
The Kos Archaeological Museum was created by the Italians in 1936 to collect archaeological finds after the 1933 earthquake. The museum is not huge but the visit is interesting. You will find in particular a collection of sculptures from the Hellenistic period (4th century BC) as well as beautiful mosaics including one from Asclepius (3rd century AD) which represents the healing god landing in Kos. The most famous piece in the museum is the oldest existing statue of Hippocrates (4th century BC).
