OLD AGORA
Agora of the ancient city of Kos preserving the ruins of the temples of Aphrodite and Hercules.
The ancient city of Kos was founded in 366 B.C., but was largely buried under more modern buildings, particularly in the medieval period. In 1933, the medieval port district, known as Lango, was almost completely destroyed by a violent earthquake. The only positive thing to come out of the disaster was the discovery by Italians of the remains of the city, notably the ancient agora, which can be visited freely here, in the heart of the modern city. You'll see the ruins of a temple to Aphrodite and a temple to Hercules, as well as mosaic floors.
