PINE VALLEY GOLF CLUB
When you arrive at the Pine Valley Golf Club, you just come in one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world. It was founded in 1913 by a group of amateur golfers from Philadelphia. They purchased 184 acres of deep sandy soil in pine forests in southern New Jersey. They then gave George Arthur Crump, who knew the region well, the possibility of designing the course. This was the first and only design of Crump. Among the obligations it has imposed: no hole to be parallel to another, no more than two consecutive holes were to play in the same direction, and finally the players should not be able to see a hole other than the one they played. He also felt that a golf game on his course should require each player to use all of his clubs. The site therefore quickly became a complicated project; an obsession for Crump, who sold his hotel in Philadelphia and spent all his money in the course. The marshes had to be drained and 22 000 strains of trees had to be removed. When Crump died in 1918, four holes were still incomplete, but they were carried out according to his wishes. Since then, changes have been made by several other leading golf courses designers. A course to practise at least once in his life as a golfer. It is a private club, and non-members can only play if they are invited and accompanied by a member.
