LONG WEIGHT
Large state park lake north of Southwest Harbor offering hiking on a 5-mile loop along its western shore
It is the largest lake in the national park, located on the western side of Mount Desert Island, north of Southwest Harbor. Fishing and boating are available (a fishing licence is required for those over 12 years of age). Long Pond is surrounded by lush vegetation and offers beautiful views of Mansell Mountain and Beech Mountain. It is possible to hike along the lake, especially thanks to the Long Pond Trail which makes a 5 mile loop on its west shore. It takes between 2 and 4 hours to complete.
