In the heart of the New Territories, Tai Mo Shan, nicknamed "Great Misty Mountain" or "Big Hat Mountain", rises to 957 metres, making it Hong Kong's highest peak. On a clear day, the climb rewards hikers with spectacular views of the surrounding nature park and coastal plain. The Tai Mo Shan Trail, of moderate difficulty, takes around 3 to 4 hours round trip. For casual walkers, the Twisk Nature Trail, a one-hour loop, passes through forests and picturesque waterfalls.
