HALL OF ANCESTORS OF THE TANG CLAN

On the Historic Lane of Ping Shan, this magnificent traditional building was built in 1273 by Tang Fung-shun, a member of the fifth generation of the Tang clan. Over the next few centuries it has been renovated several times and is still fully maintained. With a structure in three halls and two inner courtyards, it is one of the most beautiful examples of this type of architecture still visible in Hong Kong. Traditional auspicieux motifs, in the image of Shiwan fish dragon or unicorns unicorns, are visible in many places of the building. It is interesting to note that the first court has a raised passage in its centre, which seems to indicate that one of the members of the Tang Clan occupied a prestige position under the Imperial Government. Celebrations are still being held regularly, especially during the Chinese New Year.
