FORTIFIED VILLAGE OF KAM TIN
The fortified villages of Kam Tin were ancient refuges against pirates, bandits and soldiers
The fortified village of Kat Hing Wai in Kam Tin was once a refuge from pirates, bandits and soldiers. Here you'll come across old Hakka women smoking their long pipes. The inhabitants, of the Tang clan, have ancestors from China who emigrated from Jiangxi and were the first to populate this region, over 800 years ago. In the 13th century, the Tang clan hosted the last members of the Song dynasty, and one of the Tang married one of the emperor's aunts.
