SENTIERO DEGLI DEI
Path starting in Bomerano, passing through Agerola and ending in Positano, ancient mule track
The best-known hiking trail on the Amalfi Coast, and certainly the most beautiful! Linking Bomerano, a hamlet in Agerola, to Positano, it follows an ancient mule track, most of which is suspended 500 m above the sea. The trail passes the coastal villages below. As the hike progresses, you discover the profound beauty of the peninsula, landscapes where you can still hear the whisper of mermaids.
The trailhead is in Piazza Paolo Capasso. It is signposted by a map with a general description. The trail is well signposted throughout.
After a30-40 minute walk, it splits into two variants: the lower path on the left and the upper path on the right. Both options guarantee spectacular panoramas and equivalent levels of difficulty. The two paths then join before reaching Nocella, for the "sportiest" part of the route.
In Nocella, you can enjoy a snack and a squeezed orange or lemon juice. Nice view from the church belvedere, and public toilets (for a fee). You can then take the 1,600 steps down to Positano, or continue on to Montepertuso. In the latter case, follow the Via Nocelle, an alleyway wedged between houses, to a small square dominated by a tree, and follow the signposts.
A stretch of tarmac road leads to Montepertuso, where another 1,200-step staircase leads up to Positano.
