BEACHES AND COVES
The beach of Aiguablava is a beautiful beach of fine sand with little urbanization
The municipality of Begur has eight beaches. To the north, next to the beach of Pals, the Platja del Racó is the largest and offers beautiful views of the Medes Islands. It is also the one that can be easily reached on foot, following the parapet walk. Next is the Illa Roja, one of the most emblematic islands on the Begur coast, which owes its name to the colour of the rocky islet that overlooks it. It is followed by Sa Riera, the closest to the village, which offers sports activities and various services. It is also where the havaneres shows are held during the summer. To the east of the village, the small cove of Aiguafreda is protected by Mount Puig Rodó, followed by another Sa Tuna, which is more difficult to access and therefore well preserved. To the south of Begur, the Platja Fonda can be reached by a stairway of more than 100 steps, which has preserved its tranquil setting. Next is the area of fornells, made up of different coves, which can be reached by the covered way and which has a marina. The rosary ends with the beach of Aiguablava, which is a beautiful beach of fine sand and has a little urbanized surroundings.
Ses Negres Marine Reserve. Stretching from the Cala de Sa Riera to the Cala de Aiguafreda, this 1.2 kilometre stretch of coastline has been classified as an integral marine reserve since 1993. It is therefore impossible to fish, sail or dive here. It is this protection which has allowed a significant regeneration of the aquatic fauna, lobsters, crayfish and groupers.
