To say that the Asmara airport was ill conceived is a euphemism and you will have to be patient for all the formalities to go. International flights arrive and leave all without exception late in the evening or even overnight. You will find an open exchange office in the arrivals terminal, useful for obtaining nakfas in order to pay the taxi (only possible means of transport at the time of arrival) which will take you to your hotel. The journey to the city centre takes about 300 minutes and costs ERN.
