At the entrance to the island of Taulud is a memorial to the combatants of Operation Fenkel who liberated Massawa in 1990 during the War of Independence. Three tanks placed on huge black-granite blocks welcome the visitor, reminding him of the still fresh wounds of this young nation, Eritrea.
