CATTLE MARCH
Every Monday between 9 a. m. and 14 p. m., 2 km from the centre of Keren on the road to Nakfa, is a huge livestock market. Goats, donkeys, sheep and camels are brought dozens by farmers who often come from very far to sell their cattle in this renowned market right across the country. Spend an hour or two wandering through the animal community, under the sun of lead, and watching potential buyers negotiate with sellers in the surrounding hubbub is an undeniable experience if you are in the surrounding area on a Monday morning. However, it is better to avoid Easter Monday, with Coptic sellers not moving on that day.
