OAKWOOD CEMETERY ANNEX
The famous Hank Williams country singer (1923-1953) and his wife Audrey, born Sheppard, (1923-1975) are buried in the city cemetery at the Oakwood Cemetery Annex. It is quite easy to find the memorial in their honour erected at the top of the hill: a large indication appears at the entrance to the cemetery and the main aisle is on behalf of the artist. This superb location is an extremely visited place.
Next to the memorial, a square of French soldiers died during the Second World War in the United States (20 pilots trained at the Maxwell-Gunter Base), with a bronze plaque depicting the names of French military personnel of all weapons killed during the same conflict in the territory, as well as the tomb of the Honorary Consul of France Bernard Albert Auzias de Turenne (1915-1979) and his wife Lucienne (1907-1981).
