The first White House of Confederation was the residence of President Jefferson Davis and his family, when Montgomery was the capital of Confederation (February 1861 - end May 1861). It is located opposite the southern wing of the State Capitol, next to Alabama Department of Archives and History. Built in 1832-1835 in a italianate style by architect William Sayre, the building is fully furnished with antique furniture. It has been registered in the National Register of Historic Sites since 1974.
