SAENGER THEATRE
When Saenger Theatre Mobile opened in January 1927, he was the 61st Saenger Theatre of a chain founded by the two mammals J.H. and A.D. Saenger of New Orleans. Designed by the architect, Emile Weil, the Mobile Saenger Theatre was built in a continental style, designed to resemble European operas. The interior decoration is inspired by Greek mythology with ceilings in light. It can accommodate 1 921 people.
The Saenger Theatre was one of Mobile's major entertainment centers for many years before being closed in the early 1970 s. It was purchased on the eve of its demolition by South Alabama University. It was partially renovated and reopened as the arts and entertainment centre called The USA Saenger Theatre. Acquired in 1999 by the city, it now functions as a performing arts centre and is the official residence of the Mobile Symphony Orchestra. He presents numerous concerts, conferences and special events, and also serves as a cinema at festivals in summer.
