AMERICAN TOBACCO HISTORIC DISTRICT
The former factories of the American Tobacco Campus have been converted into a trendy complex that houses many offices, a few restaurants and bars and the headquarters of the cosmetics company Burt Bee's (you can see the former home of the founder, Burt Shavitz, who was repatriated to Durham from Maine and, in summer, under the wooden shutter, behind a window, a swarm of bees in full labour.
The central square is particularly pleasant with its lawn (in summer, do not miss the On The Lawn concerts) and its stream, in the middle still stands a fireplace marked with Lucky Strike colours. Higher up, you will find a basketball court, a giant chessboard, comfortable facilities to rest for a while and an old train car. The American Tobacco campus area includes the Durham Bull Baseball Park across the street, Diamond Park View Park, adjacent restaurants and bars, and the DPAC Theatre.
