In 1987, the US Congress passed a law recognizing two of the roads that the American army imposed on Cherokee during their forced displacement of 1838-1839 (Trail of Tears: The Trail of Tears) that drove them from their lands to the southeast of the United States to the present Oklahoma. Trail of Tears National Historic Trail, administered by The National Park Service, regroups routes that cross the nine states affected by the Trail of tears: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Tennessee. Each state offers different activities, exhibitions and places of visit.
