CHARLESTON MUSEUM
Founded in 1773, this museum is the first to have been created in the United States. The main exhibition covers the history of the city and the region from prehistory to the war of Secession through the Amerindian period. Several other exhibitions can complete the visit. This is notably the case of the vintage clothing collection (Historic Textiles), with a lot of 1900-year dresses, fans and colorful hats or the silver show (Silver Charleston) composed of more than 400 pieces finely worked. Two beautiful houses located at other addresses belong to the museum and may visit or complement the museum: Joseph Manigault House, built in 1803, and the Heyward-Washington House, dating back to 1772.
