Segregation in the Atlanta fire service continued until 1963. This barracks was the first to allow black and white firefighters to work together. The building, with Romanesque revival, dates back to 1894. The barracks remained in operation until 1991. Since 1996, it has been the starting point for the guided visit of the birthplace of Martin Luther King, a few dozen metres away.
