Created in 1926 by a group of fourteen Atlantans wishing to preserve the history of the city, the Atlanta History Center now extends to a 13 hectare site in Buckhead, on the northern outskirts of Atlanta. It comprises several entities, including:

The Atlanta History Museum tells the story of the region and its population. Several temporary exhibitions are simultaneously presented. They address themes such as "The American Civil War and the Turning Point of History", "50 objects to describe Atlanta", "The Indians of Georgia", "Uncle Sam and the First World War", "Memories and Stories that Nineties Atlanta"…

The Centennial Olympic Games Museum, inaugurated in 2006, on the occasion of the 10 years of the Atlanta Games. More than 6 000 objects, documents, memories of the event, but also its design are gathered here. The first were collected from 1986.

The Smith Family Farm and Swan House, two residences dating from 1860 and 1928 open to guided tours. Smith Farm includes Tullie Smith House, a planter house built in the 1840 s east of Atlanta, outside the boundaries of the city. The house survived the destruction of Atlanta during the civil war was moved to the Atlanta History Centre in the early 1970 s. Swan House is an elegant manor house built in 1928 for the Edward H. Inman family, heirs of a fortune in the cotton industry. His designer is Atlanta's architect Philip Trammell Shutze. The renovated rooms are to be visited as well as the garden with beautiful fountains.

The Wood Family Cabin, a simple wooden hut that allows you to relive the feelings of the pioneers who settled on the border of the Indian territories. Guides in costume costume allow visitors to discover the environment of Elias and Jane Wood, ancestors of the Hartrampf family, in the late 1830 s, shortly before the deportation of Creek and Cherokee (Trail of Tears).

Le, a centre that allows you to register a conversation with friends or family members and keep a copy. The original registration is archived as a collective and historical memory at the Congress Library in Washington. Registrations are made by appointment or from the StoryCorps website.

The Kenan Research Center. Genealogical research can be done on families in Atlanta and discover several themes related to the culture and history of the region: «Regional Decorative Arts and its Influences», «African-American History and the Civil Rights Movement»; «Atlanta Policy», «South Cuisine», «Historical Studies of Gays and Lesbians», «Regional Photography and Photography History», «Regional Folk Art»; «Transport and economic development». The centre also includes a series of specialized libraries (Cherokee Garden Library: Cherokee and South American botanical and agriculture; Philip T. Shutze and Harvey M. Smith: architecture, decorative arts and design; Beverly M. DuBose Jr. and Thomas S. Dickey: Civil war and military material), as well as the collections collections of the Sons of the American Revolution (Sons of the American Revolution).

The Goizueta Gardens, made up of the beautiful botanical gardens and wooded gardens, which spans 9 hectares of property. Discover a rich variety of south-eastern US flora.

The Atlanta History Center also owns Margaret Mitchell's home, located outside the campus, and is the masterpiece of the Rehearsal project dedicated to the Battle of Atlanta (opening in 2017).
