The King Center (of its full name Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change) was founded in 1968 by Coretta Scott King, Martin Luther King's wife. The mission of the centre is to promote and maintain the philosophy and methods of non-violence that Martin Luther King wanted to implement.
The open building houses the Freedom Hall, which includes the Grand Foyer, with exhibitions on two levels, a conference room/autitorium and a boutique. It is at the Freedom Hall that you can register for the guided tour of the home house of Martin Luther King (Dr. King's Birth Home).
At the back of the King Center we reach the Reflecting Pool, an immense outdoor pool at the end of which, out of the water, the tombs of Martin Luther King and his wife died in 2006. Faced with burials, the Eternal flame (The Eternal Flame) constantly burns and symbolizes Martin Luther King's dream for a world of justice, peace and equality. You can follow the basin on its length by borrowing a semi-covered gallery, The Freedom Gallery. The water jets that emerge from the basin at the opposite of the graves are Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Fountain.
