MORTON THEATRE
The Morton Theatre is the oldest theatre of Afro-American music-hall built and operated in the United States. Opened in 1910, he is registered with the National Register of Historic Places. He hosted the first concerts of famous black artists such as classical pianist Alice Carter Simmons, the duo of comics Butterbeans and Susie (1895-1967/1896-1963), bluesmen Blind Willie McTell (1898-1959), Curley Weaver (1906-1962), and Roy Dunn (1922-1988). The Morton Theatre also saw the dawn of cinema. Completely restored, it proposes and organizes a wide range of shows and events: concerts, musicals, theatre rooms, religious services, weddings and receptions, poetry readings, awards, conferences, contests…
