LA PISCINE TOURNESOL À FERRETTE
The polyester-tiled dome, designed by engineer Thémis Constantinidis, is made up of thirty-six metal arches, twelve of which are retractable, allowing the SWIMMING POOL to be viewed from a 120-degree angle in summer. Every other arch is pierced by seven portholes, contributing to the futuristic appearance of the structure. Over 183 Tournesol pools were built between the 1970s and 1980s, as part of a nationwide program to make swimming accessible to as many people as possible. This vintage architecture, featuring indoor and outdoor pools, slides, table tennis, table soccer and a small snack bar, has recently been renovated and enlarged, and now even better integrates this Tournesol emblem for many.
