COLONIAL PARK CEMETERY
The Colonial Park Cemetery is the last resting place for the oldest inhabitants of Savannah. Founded around 1750, he was the cemetery of origin of the parish of Christ Church. The site was expanded in 1789 to accommodate the remains of believers of all faiths. Among those buried here are Button Gwinnett, one of the signatories of the Declaration of Independence, but also the victims of duels, frequent in Savannah from 1740 to 1877. More than 700 victims of the 1820 yellow fever epidemic are also resting here. Markers allow to identify the main graves and to read a brief history of the deceased.
