Established in 1961, the Council of Federated Organizations (COFO) or Council of Federated Organizations, regrouped the main organizations of the civil rights movement in the Mississippi in the 1960 s. The National Association for the Advancement of Hue People (NAACP), the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (CSCC) and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Located in the Lynch Street Civil Rights Corridor, in the building that was the nerve centre of the Mississippi movement, this centre was opened in 2011 under the partonnage of Jackson State University. There is a great deal of information about the history of this fight and the permanent exhibition «Celebrating the Jackson Movement», which recounts the events in the capital from 1961 to 1963. Temporary exhibitions are also regularly organized.
