MUD ISLAND RIVER PARK
A large and pleasant park to visit that can be reached by car via Island Drive or by taking the monorail
Located at the foot of the DeSoto Bridge (I-40), the Mud Island peninsula was home to the city's airport until the 1970s. While the northern part has become a rather chic residential area (Harbor Town), its southern part has been transformed into a large park that is pleasant to visit, Mud Island River Park, which can be reached by car via Island Drive or, in a more playful way, by taking the monorail that runs from Downtown, suspended above Wolf River Harbor. The walk on the peninsula gives a different view of the city and the river.
Mississippi River Museum. The major interest of Mud Island River Park is undoubtedly its fascinating museum which evokes, in its 18 galleries, the history of the Mississippi River. From the arrival of the first settlers to the dramatic floods, without forgetting a more cultural angle with the evolution of musical currents on the Mississippi delta (from the ragtime of New Orleans to the rock'n'roll of the King in Memphis), navigation and steamboats, or the Civil War. A visit not to be missed.
Riverwalk. Also not to be missed, especially with children, is the Riverwalk, a small-scale outdoor representation of the lower course of the river between the Ohio River and the Gulf of Mexico.
Mud Island Amphitheater. Nearby, the amphitheatre is reserved for some of the major events that the city regularly organises
