JOHN SEIGENTHALER PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE (SHELBY STREET BRIDGE)
The John Seigenthaler pedestrian bridge, formerly Shelby Street Bridge until 2014, spans Cumberland River over 960 metres. It connects downtown Nashville to the residential suburb of East Nashville. Originally built in 1909, it was originally named Sparkman Street Bridge. Designed to support the tracks of Tennessee Central Railroad (now CSX), it was subsequently reserved for motor traffic and dedicated to this use until 1998. Closed after a structure defect was noted, it was turned into a pedestrian bridge in 2003. It offers an exceptional view of the river and the roofs of the city centre. It offers access, among other things, to the Nissan Stadium. He became the symbol of Nashville.
