MCGHEE TYSON AIRPORT
This public/military airport is named after U.S. Navy pilot Charles McGhee Tyson, who died during the First World War. Opened in 1937, it offers direct flights to destinations such as Sarasota, Boston, Phoenix, Chicago, Houston and Washington D.C. The airport has a number of services and facilities, including car rentals, car pooling, cabs and charters. Hotels are also available nearby. For travelers, there is a TSA checkpoint with a waiting time of around 10 minutes. McGhee Tyson Airport is also in the process of installing CT technology to improve security.
