The permanent exhibition of the Museum (Voices of the Land: The People of East Tennessee), explore three centuries of life in the region: Cherokee and pioneers through civil War, industrial growth, women's voting rights, lifestyle and crafts in the Appalachians, the Afro-American contribution, the beginnings of country music, the creation of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, to the creation of "Secret City" (the city of Oak Ridge) and the history of the Manhattan project.
