The flight of the bats is a not-to-be-missed event, from Memorial Day weekend through mid-October
You can take part in a lecture by a ranger on bats just before observing their flight. No reservations are required for this program, which takes place every evening at the Bat Flight Amphitheater, located at the natural entrance to Carlsbad Cavern, from Memorial Day weekend (May 27) to October. Start times change as summer progresses and sunset times change. The best bat flights take place from August to September, when the summer-born babies join the flight.
