Large natural park composed of magnificent volcanic formations and offers superb views of the surroundings
The Malpais National Monument Visitor Center will provide you with practical information on the current status of the park, including an update on which hiking trails are open. There are maps with trails that cross the park. The Lava Falls Trail is recommended: a one mile loop with a short trail leading to a natural lava amphitheater. Although the trail is relatively short, its surface is very jagged and uneven.
