The hydroelectric power plant in Fessenheim was started in 1956! Inaugurated the following year by President Coty, it has a highly automated design and is the most powerful of the chain of ten hydraulic power stations on the Rhine. It comprises 4 vertical turbines with a power of 180,000 KVA under a fall of 18.50 m . On its facade, a concrete half-relief represents a powerful figure holding the electric lightning and the river swell.
