Limbenii Vechi is a rather old village, mentioned for the first time in a document of October 14, 1649. The church of the Saints-Archanged-Michel-and-Gabriel is located south of the village and its small lake. The building would have been built in 1802, but other sources date it to 1769. It has been restored in the meantime. The church is built entirely of wood, with logs and following a cross plan. The entrance is topped by a pointed bell tower and the nave is also topped by a pointed spire. The copper roof can be seen from afar. The church is surrounded by a garden and a cemetery, a few steps from the shores of the small local lake. There are many other churches in the area, and in the surrounding area you can see the Holy Trinity Church in Danu, the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Camenca, the Church of the Saints-Michel-and-Gabriel in Cajba, and the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Balatina, that of the Dormition-de-la-Mère-de-Dieu at Butești, that of Saint-Georges at Ciuciulea, that of the Saints-Archanges-Michel-et-Gabriel de Cobani, that of the Nativity-of-the-Mother-of-God at Cuhnești, that of the Protection-of-the-Mother-of-God at Funduri Noi and that of the Holy Trinity at Funduri Vechi.
The village of Limbenii Vechi is the birthplace of the writer Gheorghe Blanaru, the philologist Irina Condrea, the economist Petru Țurcanu and the accordionist Oleg Antoci, who is a soloist in the Moldavian popular music orchestra of lăutarii conducted by the virtuoso violinist Nicolae Botgros.
