A former convent whose construction and successive modifications offer a real mix of genres.
The Augustinians were commissioned by Vasco de Quiroga in the 16th century to found a monastery here, on the border between the Michoacan highlands and the Bajío region of the state of Guanajuato. Its construction and successive modifications allow for a true mixture of genres, whose façade is a fine example of the execution of the plateresque style (transition between Gothic and Renaissance) in the new Spanish territories.
