PREHISTORY MUSEUM
Museum featuring lithic tools, prehistoric objects and casts of prehistoric skulls.
Around Rânes, not far from Argentan, some of the oldest prehistoric remains in the Orne region have been unearthed. Dating from the Middle Paleolithic, these sites attest to the presence of human beings between around -150,000 and -40,000. The museum, housed on the mezzanine floor of the Château de Rânes, features a large collection of tools, the first of which were made by Neanderthal man. A children’s room (with free admission for children up to 6 years of age) offers a fun, interactive introduction to excavation.
