ZONA ARQUEOLOGICA QUIAHUIZTLÁN

The chronology of the city is similar to that of Cempoala, since its main activity takes place between 900 and the arrival of the Spaniards; the city was first dominated by the Toltecs of Tula, before having to pay tribute to the great Tenochtiltán of the Aztecs. The archaeological site, because of its elevated position, was perhaps a fortress, but also a necropolis: 78 tombs have been found there, as well as a ceremonial centre.
