Comalcaco hosts archaeologists recovering artifacts from pre-Columbian civilizations in the state of Hidalgo to Guatemala.
Comalcalco ("the place of the comal's house", in the Náhuatl language) was a major commercial area in Mesoamerica. Its occupation dates back to more than 2,000 B.C. and it is the westernmost site of the Maya area, which seems to have been a provincial extension of the city of Palenque, located 160 kilometers away. Archaeologists have found several artifacts from pre-Columbian civilizations in the state of Hidalgo to Guatemala.
