COLORED LAGOONS
5 lagoons with wild tones and a small museum with variable hours in Lagunas de Montebello.
From the entrance of the Parque Nacional Lagunas de Montebello, a road goes straight to 5 lagoons with wild tones: laguna Agua Tinta, laguna Esmeralda, laguna Ensueño, laguna Encantada, laguna Bosque Azul (this last one is the biggest of the park). At the end of the road, we come across a small museum of the site, with variable hours. Straight ahead, a dirt road leads to a group of small farms; by gently disturbing its inhabitants, they can take you on a charming walk to discover the Arco de Piedra and two caves located below, along the river (this one overflows during the rainy season, making the place inaccessible). Retracing your steps towards the museum, a dirt road also continues on your left. It allows you to reach the Cabañas Bosque Azul. Continuing on for a few more kilometers, you pass through a first rural community ($30 toll) and then reach a second one that has a small ecotourism center ($35 toll). This is the place where we stop to discover three beautiful cenotes: Bartolo (magnificent viewpoint from the heights), Camarón (where swimming is possible, even recommended!) and La Peineta. For the explorers who want to go even further off the beaten track, other cenotes and lagoons are accessible from here, on foot or by boat. Then, you will have to return towards the entrance of the park to follow the other road and the more developed lagoons. It's beautiful.
