ST. JULIAN'S CHURCH
Church with art deco decor by Jean Gaudin in the heart of the medieval city
From the top of the medieval town, Saint-Julien church rises its modern silhouette, dominated by its octagonal bell tower. Listed as a historic monument, it was built between 1924 and 1926 using reinforced concrete, a revolutionary technique at the time that eliminated the need for interior pillars. Its centered plan, art deco stained glass windows and mosaics by Jean Gaudin, apse featuring a Christ Pantocrator and corner apsidioles give it a neo-Byzantine style. But the church is in danger: a vast renovation program is underway until 2028.
