KOUVOUTSAKIS ART INSTITUTE
Private museum with 1,500 works from the centuries, mainly by Greek painters, including Gyzis' Portrait of the Lady (1866).
This private museum (Πινακοθήκη Κουβουτσάκη/Pinacotheki Kouvoutsaki) features 1,500 works from the 19th and 20th centuries, mainly by Greek painters. One of the highlights is Portrait of a Lady (1866) by Nikolaos Gyzis (1842-1901), master of the Munich School and precursor of modern Greek art. We find works by his successors, also trained in Germany, such as E. Zaïris and G. Iakovidis. Note a few foreign pieces, including two studies by Delacroix. A must-see in addition to the National Gallery in Athens.
