This memorial on the edge of the lagoon was erected in April 2010, in memory of the Sri Lankan soldiers who died during the major battles against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). These battles took place at this strategic point in 1991, 2000 and 2009. The monument is 13 meters high and represents Sri Lanka carried by several hands. Commemorative plaques are placed on the base of the monument. Four bronze lions are placed at different corners.
