The Jaffna order of nuns was established in 1950. It is part of the Rosarians, founded in 1928 in Jaffna, which was the first indigenous congregation in Asia. Although the spiritual life of the community is centered on the prayer of the Rosary, other activities are part of the daily life. The convent produces and sells a type of wine called Rosetto, which is particularly sweet and flavoured with cinnamon and cloves, as well as non-alcoholic fruit-based drinks.
