ST JAMES CHURCH
The interest of this church is above all symbolic, more than architectural. It was built by the British on the site where the Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil was originally located, razed to the ground by the Portuguese conquerors in 1620. If the Portuguese did not build a church themselves, the fact that they razed the most important temple in Jaffna demonstrates their desire to colonise through religion. Today, this beautiful and large church open to the 4 winds gathers the faithful during the Sunday mass. It is advised to take off your shoes at the entrance.
